Former Marketing Graduate Looks To Female Sports Fans
Samantha Lloyd, a fashion marketing graduate from the University of Nottingham, is one half that has launched a new fashion company – flag-rags.com – and it is gaining a lot of press attention in France. The 24 year old recently moved to Paris in a bid to improve her French and quickly got a job working at a British Pub in Saint Germain en Laye. The owner Gina Goulding had come up with the idea, some years earlier, of making dresses in the style of English flags for sporting competitions and it is from here that Lloyd took the inspiration for Flag Rags.
The underlining reason was that there is a large gap in the market for clothes for female sports fans. Indeed, Goulding pointed out that often the only option for female sporting clothing is wearing a small sized men’s rugby top; however with Flag Rags they both hope that this is about to change. Their range currently accommodates the countries of the 6 nations (England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, France and Italy) however there are plans to expand this in time for the 2012 London Olympics and Lloyd admits that they are getting requests from all over the world to have their countries flag made into a stylish dress.
Lloyd, who previously had an internship with top fashion label Versace, admits that helping to run her own company means that she can be involved with so much more within the business and, with all the attention Flag Rags is receiving; it looks as if the business will only grow and grow.
